Chaibasa, Feb 20: In a strong display of political mobilisation ahead of the municipal elections, Chaibasa on Friday witnessed a massive procession-cum-support rally led by BJP-backed Municipal Council chairman candidate Ramesh Khirwal. The rally, marked by enthusiastic participation from party leaders, grassroots workers, women supporters and local residents, was widely seen as a show of strength in the run-up to the civic polls.

The city-wide procession began from Khirwal Dharamshala and moved through Mangla Haat, Ratanlal Petrol Pump Chowk, Shaheed Park Chowk and Post Office Chowk before passing via Kapda Patti and returning to its starting point, where it culminated in a public meeting. Along the route, supporters urged voters to back Khirwal by casting their vote for Serial Number 6, bearing the “biscuit” symbol.

Adding a ceremonial tone to the rally, floral tributes were paid to iconic tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda, late Radhe Sumburui, martyr Ram Bhagwan Kerketa and Swami Vivekananda at Ravindra Bhavan. Participants also offered prayers at temples en route, seeking peace and prosperity for the town. Flower showers and spirited slogans accompanied the procession, creating a festive yet disciplined atmosphere.

A notable feature of the rally was the large participation of women, described by party leaders as a reflection of growing public confidence in the BJP-backed candidate. Ward presidents, booth-level workers and a cross-section of citizens joined the march, underscoring its broad-based support.

Prominent leaders present included former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, former MP Geeta Koda, district BJP president Geeta Balmuchu and senior leader Badkuwar Gagrai, among others.

Addressing the gathering, Madhu Koda said Chaibasa required “honest, strong and decisive leadership,” expressing confidence that Khirwal would set a new course for urban development. Geeta Koda termed the rally a “symbol of public trust,” noting the significant participation of women and youth. Other speakers echoed calls for transparent governance and coordinated efforts for comprehensive city development.

In his address, Khirwal said the overwhelming public response had increased his responsibility. “Chaibasa will be given a new identity through service, transparency and development,” he assured.

The rally concluded peacefully, with supporters reiterating their resolve to ensure Khirwal’s victory in the forthcoming municipal elections.
