Jharkhand frames fest 2026: UMU celebrates photography, creativity and visual storytelling

Ranchi, 21 August 2026: Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Usha Martin University, in partnership with Canon, organised Jharkhand Frames Fest 2026 on the occasion of World Photography Day, bringing together students, photography enthusiasts and professionals to celebrate photography, creativity and visual storytelling.
The event was organised under the guidance of Prof. Rajni Kant, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Shiv Pratap Verma, Registrar, Usha Martin University.


The festival featured a photography exhibition, an expert masterclass, a photowalk, a live Canon competition, the Canon Experience and the “Five Frames, One Jharkhand Story” photo challenge.


A key highlight of the festival was the masterclass, “Photography Beyond the Camera: Art, Ethics & Visual Storytelling,” conducted by professional photographer Nayan Shaurya. Participants also joined a photowalk led by Subhajit Baral from Canon and explored Canon equipment through the live competition and interactive Canon Experience session.


The event concluded with the announcement of the winners. Ujwal Karan from UMU won the Best Mobile Photography category, Vishal Bharadwaj from UMU won People’s Choice Award, Mrinmay Rabha from Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati was recognised as the Best Emerging Photographer, and Satyam Mehta from UMU received the Best Photographer award. The awards were presented by Prof. Rajni Kant, Vice Chancellor, Usha Martin University, who congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of the students and organisers.


Canon also organized the photo story challenge at the venue, and three students of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication won Canon goodies as part of the competition. The festival provided participants with a meaningful platform to learn from professionals, experiment with photography and showcase their creative perspectives while capturing the culture, people and landscapes of Jharkhand.
