Kalaburagi, Feb 20: A routine internal examination at Dr Malakareddy Homoeopathic College in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district turned violent on Friday after a student allegedly assaulted an invigilating professor who caught him using a mobile phone during the test.

The incident occurred during a Homoeopathic Materia Medica examination and was recorded on CCTV cameras installed inside the examination hall.

According to college sources, Assistant Professor Shivarajkumar, who was on invigilation duty, allegedly found a student identified as Shahbaz copying answers with the help of a mobile phone. The professor reportedly confiscated the student’s answer sheet and directed him to leave the hall.

What followed was a sudden escalation.

Assault Caught on Camera

CCTV footage shows the student reacting angrily and physically attacking the professor moments after being confronted. Fellow students present in the hall intervened and attempted to restrain him.

Although Shahbaz initially appeared to move towards the exit, the footage shows him returning seconds later and striking the professor again before being pulled away by others.

“A routine internal examination turned violent after a student allegedly attacked a professor who caught him cheating,” a college official said, adding that the entire episode was captured on camera.

Disciplinary Action Taken

Following the incident, the college administration informed the student’s parents and barred him from appearing in future examinations.

“The college has taken disciplinary action and prohibited the student from writing any further exams,” an official stated.

Despite the availability of CCTV evidence documenting the assault, Assistant Professor Shivarajkumar has not lodged a police complaint in connection with the incident so far.

The episode has raised concerns over campus discipline and the increasing use of electronic devices for malpractice during examinations. Further action, if any, is awaited.
