Ranchi, July 24 : The Jharkhand government has intensified efforts to ensure comprehensive crop insurance coverage for farmers under the Birsa Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (B-PMFBY) for the Kharif 2026 season, with Cooperative Societies Registrar Shashi Ranjan directing officials to achieve 100 per cent enrolment of all eligible farmers across the state.
The directive was issued during a review meeting held to assess the implementation of the crop insurance scheme and to formulate strategies for achieving the state’s coverage targets. Officials were instructed to focus on ensuring full enrolment of both loanee and non-loanee farmers under the scheme.
The meeting reviewed progress towards the Kharif 2026 insurance targets, implementation of awareness campaigns and measures to improve participation among eligible farmers. Representatives from NABARD, the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), commercial banks, insurance companies, Common Service Centres (CSCs) and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
Officials informed the Registrar that non-loanee farmers can enrol under the scheme by submitting their Aadhaar card, bank passbook, land ownership documents and crop sowing details through the online portal. Farmers can also complete the registration process through cooperative credit societies, Jharkhand State Cooperative Bank Ltd., Dhanbad Central Cooperative Bank Ltd., scheduled commercial banks, regional rural banks, CSC centres, post offices or by logging into the National Crop Insurance Portal.
Loanee farmers holding Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) can obtain crop insurance coverage through their respective banks, officials said.
The state government is aiming to maximise farmer participation under the scheme to provide financial protection against crop losses caused by adverse weather and other natural calamities during the ongoing Kharif season. Authorities also stressed the need for extensive awareness campaigns to ensure eligible farmers are informed about the benefits and enrolment process under the crop insurance programme.
