WASHINGTON, Feb 20: Cryptocurrency-based prediction platform Polymarket and online publishing platform Substack have announced a partnership that will allow writers to embed live prediction market data directly into their articles.
Under the collaboration, Substack will introduce native tools enabling writers to share, discuss and debate prediction market data within their posts. The feature follows a pilot programme that has been running since 2024.
Substack co-founder and CEO Chris Best said the trial phase saw notable adoption, with one in five of Substack’s 250 highest-revenue publications embedding prediction market data into their content.
Announcing the partnership on social media platform X, Polymarket said, “Journalism is better when it’s backed by live markets,” adding that the initiative aims to make journalism “better” with “live markets.”
The announcement, however, drew criticism from several journalists and media observers, who questioned the growing intersection between gambling-style prediction markets and news reporting.
Prediction markets such as Polymarket allow users to wager on real-world events, ranging from unconventional scenarios to high-stakes geopolitical developments, including wars. Critics argue that betting on serious global events risks blurring legal and ethical boundaries. Polymarket counts investor Peter Thiel among its backers.
