New Delhi, Mar 19: The International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR) has stressed the growing need for international collaboration as gambling markets become increasingly global and technologically complex.
In an interaction with Focus Gaming News, IAGR Chief Executive Officer Kevin Mullally said regulators worldwide are facing common challenges that go beyond national boundaries, making cooperation across jurisdictions essential.“Gambling markets are increasingly global, and many regulatory challenges require collaboration across jurisdictions,” Mullally said, highlighting issues such as illegal betting, financial crime and threats to market integrity.
He outlined key priorities for the organisation, including strengthening global engagement, expanding knowledge-sharing platforms and supporting regulators in adapting to rapid technological changes.
Mullally said regulatory technology will play a central role, with authorities increasingly relying on data analytics and artificial intelligence to monitor compliance and tackle illegal activities. He added that IAGR aims to help members identify effective tools and share practical insights from their implementation.
IAGR President Ben Haden said the organisation remains member-led, with the board continuing to set its strategic direction. The appointment of a CEO is intended to enhance operational efficiency and ensure more consistent delivery of initiatives, he added.
According to Haden, regulators are operating in a more interconnected and complex environment, and strengthening leadership capacity will help IAGR better support its global membership.
The association, which includes regulators from both mature and emerging markets, aims to provide a platform for sharing expertise and best practices. Mullally said the organisation does not promote a single regulatory model but focuses on enabling members to learn from each other’s experiences.
He added that IAGR plans to expand working groups, encourage year-round engagement beyond its annual conference and develop practical guidance to help regulators address evolving risks.
Haden said inclusivity remains central to IAGR’s approach, with efforts focused on ensuring relevance for jurisdictions at different stages of regulatory development.
The leadership emphasised that structured cooperation and sustained engagement among regulators will be key to improving oversight, strengthening consumer protection and maintaining the integrity of global gambling markets.
