New Delhi , July 10: A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare will review the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and examine the functioning of key regulatory institutions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at its meeting on July 16, as scrutiny over the medical entrance examination continues.
The committee, chaired by Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, will discuss the organisational structure, mandate and functional proficiency of regulatory institutions under the Health Ministry, including the role of the National Medical Commission (NMC) in the conduct of NEET under the provisions of the NMC Act, 2019.
The meeting is expected to examine the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET examination, along with the regulatory oversight exercised by the NMC.
A day earlier, on July 15, the panel will hold a separate meeting to deliberate on the affordability and accessibility of healthcare services in both the public and private sectors.
The Health and Family Welfare Committee is the third parliamentary panel to take up issues related to NEET following the controversy over the examination. The matter has previously been examined by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, as well as the Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances.
The July 16 meeting comes amid continued parliamentary scrutiny of the examination process and the functioning of regulatory bodies responsible for medical education and entrance testing.
