Ranchi, Aug 24: The Ranchi Cyber Crime Police have approached social media platform X seeking details of the operator of an account allegedly involved in spreading fabricated and inflammatory content related to the Jharkhand government and recruitment examinations, officials said.
The police have issued a legal notice to X Corp seeking information about the account @JPSCreformanch, operated under the name “JPSC JSSC REFORM MANCH”, as part of a criminal investigation registered with the Kotwali police station.According to the notice, investigators have alleged that the account repeatedly circulated manipulated videos, images and messages that could create public alarm and disturb social harmony.
Police have cited posts that allegedly accused the state government of misleading students and contained claims about threats to youths. Investigators have also alleged that the account circulated unverified allegations of police excesses and used objectionable language concerning tribal officials.
The notice, reportedly signed by DSP Pankaj Kumar on August 22, invokes provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Information Technology Act in seeking assistance from the platform.The cyber police have asked X to provide identification and account-related information, including the name and address of the account operator, contact details, registered email addresses, login records and IP addresses.
Investigators have also sought information about devices used to access the account, including device models and, where available, IMEI details. The requested activity records reportedly cover the period beginning August 10.The account in question subsequently posted the police notice on X and described it as a “Love Letter” from Ranchi Police.Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan was not available for comment on the development.
The police have meanwhile appealed to residents to verify information before sharing posts, videos or messages on social media. Officials warned that deliberately circulating false or inflammatory material could create tension and lead to legal consequences.
The development comes amid heightened debate and protests in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by agencies including the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.
Police said citizens should rely on verified and official sources, report suspicious content to authorities and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
