Ranchi, Aug 22: Senior BJP leader and former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren on Saturday demanded a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in the state, accusing the JMM-led government of failing job aspirants.
Soren alleged that the government was not taking adequate steps to address the concerns of protesting candidates and had allowed police action against students demonstrating over the recruitment issue. His remarks came a day after clashes were reported between police and protesters in Ranchi, Hazaribag, Giridih and other parts of the state during demonstrations over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
The protesters had attempted to burn effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the Congress during the demonstrations. Champai Soren alleged that the students had obtained administrative permission for their programmes but were nevertheless subjected to force.
He claimed that the government should recommend a CBI probe so that allegations concerning examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and other recruitment agencies could be examined independently.
Soren also questioned the handling of records related to the alleged irregularities, pointing to the detention of a former JPSC chairman and the departure of other commission members. He asked how relevant documents and information would be presented before investigating agencies and courts.
According to Soren, the protesters were primarily seeking that the government place complete and accurate information before the judiciary and follow the prescribed legal process. The recruitment controversy has led to prolonged protests by job aspirants, who have demanded action over alleged examination irregularities and greater transparency in the recruitment system.
The issue has also reached the courts, with several candidates challenging government decisions concerning the cancellation of recruitment examinations. The allegations made by the BJP leader regarding police action and recruitment irregularities could not be independently verified. The matter remains subject to ongoing legal and investigative proceedings.
