East Singhbhum district police has seized 105 firearms till date this year, making it clear that it was committed to act on “zero tolerance for weapon” mode with an aim to turn the district an illegeal weapon-free district.
In an pre-emptive action, police has recovered 56 of the 105 firearms on the basis of intelligence inputs, preventing criminals from committing crime before hand.
Such pro-active approach of the district police exhibited its resolve to initiate action against criminals.
Superintendent of Police (City) here Kumar Sivashish on Friday made it clear that action will be initiated under stringent sections of BNS and Arms Act, if anyone would be caught possessing illegal firearms.
SP revealed this after a 24-year-old youth with criminal antecedent was arrested with arm and live cartridges from South Park locality under Bistupur police station jurisdiction of Jamshedpur yesterday morning.
On receiving an intelligence input, a police raid team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (CCR) Manoj Kumar Thakur was formed on the directive of Senior Superintendent of Police (East Singhbhum) Piyush Pandey to investigate and take necessary action against the culprit.
The raid team comprised of Officer-in-Charge of Bistupur police station Alok Kumar Dubey swung into action and rounded up one Bagbeda-resident Aditya Jha alias Sunny, who was plundering suspiciously around Chinmaya School in South Park area on Friday morning.
Police has recovered a country-made pistol and three live cartridges from his possession following a thorough body search and formally arrested him.
Around half-a-dozen cases were pending in Jamshedpur and adjacent Seraikela-Kharswan district.
On interrogation, Jha told police that he wanted to earn some money by selling the firearm before moving out of the city.
Police will soon take him on remand for interrogation to extract information about his associates and arm supply sources, SP said.
In an another incident, police has also impounded a pistol loaded with a magazine on Friday on the lead of two accused allegedly involved in gunning down one Md Tauqir alias Gora in Shastrinagar under Kadma police station limit on 21st November night last.
Police has altogether arrested three accused in this connection and sent them behind bar.
Police have also launched massive hunt to apprehend four other accused named in the FIR and reported absconding following the incident, police officer said.
During a monthly crime meeting held a day before, Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey had instructed police officials to treat anyone possessing firearm illegally as organized criminal gang member and treat them accordingly.
We want “zero tolerance for illegal weapon” approached to be followed against criminals possessing illegal firearms and treat as organized criminal criminal gang member. Impose stringent sections of BNS and Arms Act against them, if illegal weapons recovered from them, SSP ordered.
Our endeavor is to make the district an “illgal weapon-free” district of the state, SP said.
Meanwhile, an intensive anti-crime drive was launched across the district in view spurt in criminal activities and even staged a flag march led by Sivashish himself in various police station areas recently to inculcate confidence among the citizens including Jamshedpur.
