Ranchi, March 6: A spell of changing weather conditions is expected across parts of Jharkhand this weekend, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting partly cloudy skies, light rainfall and isolated thundershowers in several districts beginning March 7.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, eastern and south-eastern districts of the state, including Jamshedpur, are likely to witness scattered rain and thunderstorms at isolated locations on Saturday. The weather pattern is expected to persist across eastern Jharkhand on March 8, while partly cloudy conditions accompanied by possible rain or thunderstorms may extend to some central districts, including Ranchi, on March 9.
Meteorologists attribute the shift in weather to the influence of two upper-air cyclonic circulations over eastern India. One system is positioned over south Assam and adjoining regions, while another is active over North Gangetic West Bengal and neighbouring Bangladesh. These atmospheric systems are facilitating moisture inflow and cloud development over Jharkhand, leading to unstable weather conditions.
Despite the anticipated change, the state recorded largely dry conditions over the past 24 hours. The highest daytime temperature of around 36°C was registered in Chaibasa, while the lowest night temperature hovered close to 10.6°C in Khunti. Temperatures in Ranchi stood at approximately 30°C during the day and 15.2°C at night, with moderate winds making evenings relatively cooler.
Weather experts said there is unlikely to be any major change in temperatures during March 6 and 7. However, daytime temperatures may climb by about 2–3 degrees Celsius between March 8 and March 10 as atmospheric conditions evolve.
Meteorologist Abhishek Anand said, “On March 6, the entire state will experience clear and dry weather, and no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected for the next two days.”
The weather department also noted that “light rain accompanied by thundershowers may occur in many parts of the state from March 7 to March 9.”
Issuing a precautionary advisory, officials urged residents—particularly in eastern and south-eastern districts—to stay alert for sudden thunderstorms and brief spells of rainfall later this week.
Authorities said farmers, commuters and residents should remain cautious as sudden weather fluctuations, gusty winds and lightning may accompany the forecasted showers in parts of the state.
