Kaimur, Dec 25: A crucial bridge (culvert) connecting the Rohtas and Kaimur districts of Bihar has collapsed, bringing traffic between the two districts to a complete standstill.

The bridge was constructed only three years ago, despite having a projected lifespan of five years, raising serious questions about the quality of construction.

According to reports, the culvert was built over the Durgawati River near Sabar village under Ramgarh block of Kaimur district at a cost of approximately ₹7 lakh from the District Council fund.

Locals said that subsidence was noticed in a portion of the structure recently, following which movement across the bridge was halted.

The Durgawati River serves as the natural boundary between Rohtas and Kaimur districts, and the collapsed culvert was a key link for residents of both regions.

People from more than a dozen villages, including Sabar, Jhali, Pandeypur, Baheri, and Barli in Ramgarh block, used this route to travel to Chenari market in Rohtas district.

With the bridge no longer functional, villagers are facing significant hardships. Farmers depend on Chenari market to sell their agricultural produce, purchase essential goods, and access medical facilities.

The disruption has adversely affected daily life and commercial activities in the region.

Following the incident, local residents have demanded an immediate administrative inquiry into the matter, accountability for those responsible, and urgent alternative arrangements along with repair or reconstruction of the bridge to restore safe and smooth connectivity between the two districts.
