Buenos Aires, Aug 29: India and Argentina have intensified efforts to deepen their economic partnership, with senior officials and business leaders from both countries holding a series of discussions aimed at expanding trade, improving market access and identifying new investment opportunities across traditional and emerging sectors.The engagements followed discussions under the Joint Trade Committee framework, where both sides examined measures to make bilateral commerce more efficient.
The adoption of digital certificates of origin was among the areas expected to support smoother trade procedures and reduce administrative hurdles for businesses involved in cross-border transactions.
India’s Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal also held discussions with Argentina’s Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Minister Pablo Quirno and representatives of leading Argentine business chambers.
The interaction provided an opportunity to gather industry perspectives and assess how government-led initiatives could better respond to the requirements of the business community. Agricultural trade was another major area of focus.
Agrawal met Argentina’s National Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Sergio Iraeta, to review issues concerning products such as onions, citrus fruits, dairy items, walnuts, grapes and bananas. The discussions were aimed at improving market access and addressing pending trade-related concerns in the agricultural sector.
The Commerce Secretary also discussed challenges related to Indian pharmaceutical exports with Argentina’s Regulation Secretary Alejandro Cacace. Talks focused on non-tariff barriers and regulatory recognition, issues considered important for facilitating greater access for Indian pharmaceutical products to the Argentine market.
Cooperation in advanced technology sectors also featured prominently during the visit. Discussions were held with Argentine officials and representatives associated with science, technology and space programmes on strengthening collaboration in space and nuclear-related fields.
The proposed engagement between the Indian Space Research Organisation and Argentina’s CONAE was also discussed as part of efforts to expand institutional cooperation.The India-Argentina Business Forum, held at Palacio San MartÃn on August 25, brought together government representatives and business leaders from both countries.
Agrawal led a delegation of more than 25 Indian business leaders, including representatives from companies and industrial groups such as UPL, Kirloskar and the Aditya Birla Group.
The forum enabled direct interaction between Indian and Argentine companies and provided an opportunity to explore partnerships in agriculture, minerals, energy, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, tourism, banking and telecommunications.
Discussions focused on translating government-level engagement into practical commercial outcomes by encouraging business-to-business partnerships, improving market access and reducing regulatory and trade-related obstacles.
The growing engagement reflects the broader potential of the India-Argentina economic relationship, which offers opportunities for increased trade, investment and cooperation in both established and emerging industries.
With businesses and government institutions seeking closer collaboration, the two countries are expected to explore new avenues for value creation and economic growth, while strengthening their position as important partners in each other’s regions.
