New Delhi, September 5: Rain and thunderstorms affected several parts of the national capital on Saturday, bringing down temperatures and providing relief from relatively warmer conditions.The minimum temperature at Safdarjung, Delhi’s representative weather station, was recorded at 24.8 degrees Celsius, around 3.4 degrees below the previous day’s level, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather agency forecast light to moderate rainfall across Delhi along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 30 degrees Celsius.
Safdarjung recorded 0.7 mm of rainfall between 11.30 pm on Friday and 5.30 am on Saturday, followed by another 1.3 mm during the next three hours.Other weather stations also reported lower minimum temperatures.
Palam recorded 22 degrees Celsius, while Lodhi Road and Ayanagar registered 24.7 degrees and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.The IMD issued a yellow-to-orange weather alert for the national capital, advising residents to remain alert amid the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the satisfactory category.
The city’s AQI was recorded at 59 at 9 am on Saturday, compared with a 24-hour average of 71 recorded at 4 pm on Friday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
Under the CPCB’s classification, an AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory, while readings from 0 to 50 fall under the good category.Authorities and residents are advised to remain cautious during periods of thunderstorms and follow official weather updates as conditions may change during the day.
