Jamshedpur, November 4: Loyola School, Jamshedpur, came alive on Tuesday as its English Dramatics Club hosted the annual Inter-Class Skit Competition, Spotlight 2025, at the Fasy Auditorium, celebrating the creative and literary brilliance of its Standard IX students.
The event featured more than 120 participants performing adaptations of classic works by Charles Dickens, Rabindranath Tagore, Oscar Wilde, Ruskin Bond, and Satyajit Ray.
A panel of judges—Mr. Siddharth Sen, Mrs. Jayshree Sharma, and Mrs. Agnes Boyle—praised the students for their nuanced performances, direction, and stagecraft.
Class 9A opened the show with Dickens’ Oliver Twist, followed by Class 9B’s spirited take on Ruskin Bond’s The Boy Who Broke the Bank. Class 9C presented Tagore’s Homecoming, while Class 9D performed Wilde’s The Model Millionaire. The event concluded with Class 9E’s imaginative staging of Satyajit Ray’s Bonku Babu’s Friend.
The performances explored themes of morality, imagination, and human compassion through a blend of tragedy, comedy, and fantasy, reflecting the Jesuit institution’s emphasis on holistic education.
Class 9B emerged as the overall winner under the mentorship of Ms. Aditi Roy Mukherjee, with Classes 9D and 9E securing second and third places, guided by Ms. Nitu Nair and Ms. Gloria Gomes respectively. Ishan Singh was named Best Actor, while Swastika Soumya received the Best Actress award.
The event was attended by Father Michael Thanaraj, Rector; Father Vinod Fernandes, Principal; Father Victor Misquith, former Principal; and Vice-Principal Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri.
Father Michael commended the students’ creativity and engagement, saying the two-hour event “passed in what felt like moments.” Father Vinod Fernandes highlighted the value of theatre in building confidence, empathy, and communication skills.
The morning concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the end of a celebration that reaffirmed Loyola School’s tradition of nurturing artistry, teamwork, and the timeless joy of storytelling.
