Chandil, May 8: Kapoor Kumar Tudu, a prominent figure in the Jharkhand statehood movement and a lifelong social worker, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 68. He died at his ancestral home in Chilgu-Chakulia, under Chandil in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, eastern India.
Tudu, also known as Kapoor Baghi, was widely respected for his role in the decades-long agitation that led to the creation of Jharkhand as a separate state in 2000. He remained committed to grassroots social causes after the formation of the state.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who was Tudu’s cousin, visited the family residence on Wednesday to pay his respects. Soren offered floral tribute, met the bereaved family, and participated in the funeral procession.
“In the form of Kapoor Tudu ji, I have lost a brother, friend, and Jharkhand agitator,” Soren said.
“His death is not only a loss to our family, but this state has lost a personality who, starting from the struggle for a separate state, kept trying to alleviate the sufferings of the common people as a social worker throughout his life.”
“His death is an irreparable loss for us. A tearful tribute to the late Kapoor Kumar Tudu ji,” the Chief Minister added.
Tudu’s contributions to the Jharkhand movement and his lifelong commitment to social causes have drawn widespread tributes from across the state.
