Musk to Be Briefed on U.S. Military Plans for China Conflict – Report
WASHINGTON – U.S. billionaire Elon Musk is set to be briefed on Friday by the Pentagon regarding the U.S. military’s contingency plans for a potential conflict with China, The New York Times reported, citing U.S. officials.
The briefing, which reportedly includes 20 to 30 slides outlining the military strategy, underscores Musk’s growing influence as a close ally of President Donald Trump and an adviser on efforts to curb government spending. The meeting is expected to take place at the Pentagon, where Musk was invited by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
“The Defense Department is excited to welcome Elon Musk to the Pentagon on Friday. He was invited by Secretary Hegseth and is just visiting,” a Pentagon spokesperson said, without disclosing further details.
Potential Conflict of Interest
Musk, who leads Tesla and SpaceX, has business ties with both the Pentagon and China, raising concerns over potential conflicts of interest. The White House has previously stated that Musk will recuse himself from matters where his business dealings could pose a conflict with his role in shaping U.S. government policies.
His inclusion in discussions on U.S. military strategy against China highlights the deepening role of private sector figures in national security planning, particularly in areas such as space and defense technology.
The Pentagon meeting comes amid prolonged tensions between Washington and Beijing over trade tariffs, technology access, cybersecurity, Taiwan, Hong Kong, human rights, and the origins of COVID-19. The U.S. government has also taken steps to scrutinize Chinese-owned companies such as TikTok over national security concerns.
Musk’s visit is expected to draw scrutiny given his extensive business interests, particularly Tesla’s operations in China, which is a key market for the electric vehicle maker.
