Ranchi, March 10: The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed the demands for grants of the labour, planning, training, skill and industry departments through a voice vote, with the state government highlighting major investments aimed at boosting industrial growth and employment.

Replying to issues raised during the debate on cut motions, Labour and Industry Minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav said the allocations were crucial for strengthening workers’ welfare programmes and accelerating industrial development in the state.

He informed the House that the government is planning investments of around ₹20,000 crore, which are expected to generate about 15,000 new jobs.

“An investment of around ₹20,000 crore will accelerate industrial growth and potentially create about 15,000 new jobs,” Yadav said during the debate.

Highlighting welfare measures, the minister said a total of 3,89,568 construction workers have been registered in the 2025–26 financial year under government welfare schemes.

“3,89,568 construction workers have been registered so far in the 2025–26 financial year,” he said, adding that the government is committed to strengthening social security for labourers.

The minister also noted that 14,748 candidates have secured employment through various recruitment and placement drives organised by the state.

In a major industrial initiative, the government has signed a ₹9,600 crore investment agreement with Tata Steel for a green steel technology project, which is expected to generate additional employment opportunities.

Yadav also said the government provides financial assistance to bring back the bodies of migrant workers who die outside the state, ensuring support to their families.

During the debate, the minister credited the development initiatives to the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Following the minister’s reply, opposition MLA Jairam Kumar Mahato withdrew his cut motion, after which the Assembly approved the demands for grants by voice vote.
