Murshidabad, Dec 22: Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir on Monday announced plans to launch a new political party, asserting that his party’s flag will soon be seen across West Bengal and promising to continue working for the common people of the state despite his break with the ruling party.
Kabir, representing the Bharatpur Assembly constituency in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district, is scheduled to formally unveil the party later in the day. Along with the launch, he will announce the names of office-bearers and several district presidents.
“I am happy. I am giving a new message for the public. The aim is to work for the common man of Bengal. I will face every challenge to accomplish my goal,” Kabir said. He also expressed confidence that candidates from his party would secure a substantial number of seats in the next state assembly elections, making it a key player in government formation.
Kabir added that the party’s flag, yet to be unveiled, will soon be flown across Kolkata, Kakdip, Cooch Behar, Alipur, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, and other districts. “Murshidabad is my birthplace, and my party’s flag being flown here is confirmed,” he said.
The launch event is scheduled at Mirzapur, near Beldanga, from noon to 3 pm. During the event, Kabir will also introduce Al Haaj Haji from West Medinipur as one of the key office-bearers.
While the official name of the party has not been disclosed, sources close to Kabir said two names are under consideration the Indian Conservative Party and the Janata Unnayan Party. As for the party symbol, Kabir’s first preference is “table,” followed by “twin roses.”
Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress earlier this month after repeated censure by party leadership. The suspension came days before the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the proposed Babri Mosque at Beldanga on December 6, which aims to replicate the original Ayodhya structure demolished in 1992.
