Patna, Aug 10: Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi has called for the effective and strict implementation of Bihar’s prohibition law, suggesting that the state could draw lessons from Gujarat’s experience.Addressing the national executive meeting of the party’s youth wing in Patna on Sunday, Manjhi said Bihar has a prohibition law, but gaps in its enforcement continue to pose a challenge.
He stressed the need for stronger implementation at the police and administrative levels to ensure that the objectives of the prohibition policy are achieved.Manjhi said Bihar should work towards making prohibition more effective so that alcohol-related problems in society can be reduced and young people can be encouraged to stay away from substance abuse.
He also called upon party workers to increase public awareness about the adverse effects of alcohol and put greater emphasis on community participation in implementing the policy.The meeting also discussed the role of young people in spreading social awareness.
Party leaders said youth increasingly use digital platforms and social media and should be encouraged to utilise them for positive campaigns.
HAM(S) leaders said an awareness drive would be undertaken to promote the idea of a drug-free and substance-free society, with a particular focus on young people.Bihar HAM(S) president Dr Anil Kumar said the campaign would seek to encourage the younger generation to stay away from intoxicants and contribute to building a healthier society.
Union Minister Santosh Kumar Suman, Anil Kumar and other party leaders were present at the meeting. The session was chaired by the party’s national youth president Kamal Parveen, while Giridhari Singh conducted the proceedings.
Manjhi’s remarks come amid continuing debate over the implementation and enforcement of Bihar’s prohibition policy, with the party seeking stronger administrative action and greater public participation in the campaign against alcohol and substance abuse.
