Chhattisgarh, Dec 15 : Two commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite CoBRA unit were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded during an anti-Maoist operation in Bijapur district, police said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon in the Farsegarh police station area when a joint team of security forces was carrying out an area domination and search operation. The team comprised personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) of the Chhattisgarh Police, and the CRPF’s Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA).
According to officials, the blast occurred while security personnel were cordoning off the forest area of Farsegarh–Pillur Kandlaparti. Two CoBRA commandos sustained minor injuries in the explosion.
The injured personnel were immediately evacuated and shifted to a hospital in the state capital Raipur. Their condition is reported to be stable and out of danger.
Security forces have intensified search operations in the area to trace the Maoists involved. The anti-Naxal operation is still underway, officials said.
Maoists frequently plant IEDs along forest paths, dirt tracks and interior routes in the Bastar region, which includes seven districts such as Bijapur, to target security forces during patrols. In the past, civilians have also been injured in similar incidents. Further details are awaited.
