Ranchi, Aug 17: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has urged Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally meet representatives of students protesting over alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations and work towards resolving their outstanding concerns. In a letter to Soren dated August 14, Gandhi said the students’ concerns were legitimate and that their agitation had been peaceful. He called for greater engagement with the protesters amid the continuing dispute over recruitment-related issues.

Gandhi acknowledged that the Jharkhand government had initiated discussions with the students through a committee constituted by the Chief Minister. He said several of the demands appeared to have found agreement, but the agitation had continued, with some protesters undertaking indefinite hunger strikes.

The Congress leader said a direct meeting between Soren and representatives of the protesting students could strengthen the government’s commitment to addressing their remaining grievances.Gandhi also referred to the wider issue of examination irregularities and paper leaks, saying young people should receive support when they raise concerns through peaceful democratic means.

He emphasised the importance of the constitutional right to peaceful protest and said the Congress supports students seeking action over alleged irregularities in examinations. In his letter, Gandhi also levelled political criticism against the RSS and BJP over their alleged influence on the country’s education system.

These remarks were part of his broader political argument on student and education-related issues. The Congress is part of the ruling alliance in Jharkhand, where the government is led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

The appeal comes as the recruitment-related agitation continues in the state, with student groups seeking concrete action on their demands. Whether direct intervention by the Chief Minister can help resolve the remaining issues is now being closely watched.
