Ranchi, Aug 17: The Jharkhand government is engaged in discussions with student groups and job aspirants over their demands concerning recruitment processes conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), amid a prolonged agitation in the state.The issue has gained momentum in recent weeks, with thousands of aspirants taking to the streets in Ranchi to press for action on their demands.
On August 10, tension escalated when protesters marching towards the Jharkhand Assembly reportedly crossed police barricades. Security personnel used lathi-charge, tear gas and water cannons to disperse the gathering, leading to injuries and further intensifying the standoff.The agitation has also emerged as a political issue, with the BJP targeting the Hemant Soren-led government over its handling of the protests.
The opposition party has called for an impartial probe into the allegations raised by the protesters and questioned the government’s decision not to order a CBI investigation.
Meanwhile, JLKM leader and student activist Devendra Nath Mahto has continued his indefinite hunger strike in support of the recruitment-related demands.Monday marked the 15th day of his fast, with reports indicating that his health condition had weakened amid dehydration and a drop in blood pressure.
The state government has maintained that it is open to dialogue with the protesting groups. However, the students have insisted that negotiations should lead to specific decisions and tangible action on their demands.The ongoing discussions are being closely monitored as the government faces mounting pressure to resolve the recruitment-related dispute and bring an end to the prolonged agitation.
