Ranchi, Jan 21: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) launched its statewide membership drive on Monday, aiming to recruit 50 lakh new members ahead of its 13th general convention scheduled for April. The campaign was inaugurated at Albert Ekka Chowk in Ranchi, where party general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya oversaw the registration of new members. The drive marks a significant push to bolster the party’s grassroots presence across the state.
“Gradually, the membership drive will be held across every ward and Panchayat. Overall, the party aims to recruit 50 lakh new members,” Bhattacharya said. In Ranchi district alone, JMM plans to enroll 5 lakh members in the coming weeks, Mushtaque Alam, the party’s former district president, told TOI. “On the first day, more than 1,200 people joined the ranks,” he said.
The membership drive follows the recent dissolution of 21 district committees by the party leadership, with convenors directed to conduct a month-long recruitment campaign through February 28.
JMM leaders said the initiative would strengthen the party’s base ahead of key political events, including the general convention, where major decisions about the party’s future direction are expected.
