Ranchi, May 17: Tribal organizations have called for a sit-in protest in front of the Raj Bhavan on May 27 and Jharkhand Bandh on June 4 in support of their demand for the removal of the ramp of the flyover near the Sirmatoli Sarna Sthal and other demands.

Kendriya Sarna Sthal Sirmatoli Bachao Sangharsh Morcha and other organizations gave this information in a press conference at the Sarna Bhavan in Nagdatoli on Saturday.

During this, it was said that the agitation will be intensified regarding the ramp. Along with this, the agitation will be continued for the demand of implementing PESA law, stopping land loot, stop misuse of funds of Tribal Sub Plan, enforcing Samta Judgment and Tribal Sarna Trust Board.

The leaders of the Morcha said that despite having a tribal Chief Minister, a lot of effort is being made to save the most prominent Sarna Sthal of Ranchi. They alleged that in this matter, most of the tribal ministers and MLAs are silent spectators.

It was said that this issue will be placed before the Governor during the sit-in on May 27 and various tribal organizations will come out on the streets to enforce Jharkhand Bandh on June 4.

Former minister Geetashree Oraon, former minister Dev Kumar Dhan and others were present at the conference.

The controversy centres around the ramp’s alignment, which significantly restricts access to the Kendriya Sarna Sthal, tribal’s religious site. A narrow 14-foot-wide gap has been left between the ramp and the Sarna ground, which tribal groups argue is insufficient for the scale of their religious processions and ceremonies.

The Kendriya Sarna Sthal, established in the 1960s by tribal leader Kartik Oraon, is a historic and spiritual site where thousands gather to celebrate Sarhul, one of Jharkhand’s most important tribal festivals.

The Rs 340-crore, 2.3-km-long flyover project includes an elevated road and a cable-stayed bridge.
