Hazaribagh, October 3: Tension has gripped Hazaribagh after a late-night incident in which the family of BJP state president and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi were allegedly assaulted.

Marandi’s wife and daughter-in-law were reportedly mistreated, while his driver was beaten and injured on Thursday night in Amrit Nagar under the Mufassil police station area. The matter came to light on Friday.

According to the complaint filed, Marandi’s daughter-in-law, Preeti Kisku, who was travelling from Giridih to Ranchi along with her mother-in-law, faced the incident in Amrit Nagar. She alleged that members of a local puja committee misbehaved with them. When their driver intervened and opposed the act, he was assaulted by the group and sustained injuries.

Following the incident, Preeti Kisku lodged an FIR at the Mufassil police station and urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible. She has specifically named the Amrit Nagar puja committee members in her complaint.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that some police personnel were present at the spot when the matter unfolded.

Taking serious note of the case, IG Sunil Bhaskar directed the Hazaribagh SP to immediately apprehend the culprits and initiate strict action. He further assured that a detailed investigation is being carried out and no one found guilty will be spared.
