Ranchi, September 29: Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has been reappointed as the captain of the Jharkhand cricket team for the upcoming 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season.
Meanwhile, experienced batter Virat Singh will serve as his deputy.
This will be the second successive season that Kishan leads the side. Under his captaincy last year, Jharkhand played four matches, winning two and drawing two, but fell short of qualifying for the knockout stage.
The new season holds added significance for Kishan, as questions continue to be raised about his future in the national team setup. He missed the opening fixture of this year’s Duleep Trophy after picking up an injury during his county stint with Nottinghamshire in England.
In the 2024-25 Ranji season, Kishan scored 176 runs from four matches at an average of 29.33, highlighted by a century (101) against Railways.
The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) said the squad was picked on the basis of current form, fitness, past record, and experience, while ensuring a balance between youth and senior players.
The board also emphasized that the selection process was “fair and transparent.”
