Ranchi, October 29: The effects of Cyclone Montha has begun to be felt across Jharkhand, bringing widespread rainfall since last morning.

Continuous rain has been reported in Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, and West Singhbhum districts. Meanwhile, other remaining parts of the state have also witnessed cloudy skies and moderate showers.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the impact of Montha, which struck the coast of Andhra Pradesh on October 28, will continue in Jharkhand until October 31. Though the cyclone is currently weakening into a deep depression and moving northwestward, it is likely to cause rainfall across many districts in Jharkhand.

As per reports, rainfall is expected to intensify in Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Lohardaga, Latehar, and West Singhbhum districts. IMD has also issued a yellow alert for these regions, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places. It said that the northeastern and southwestern districts would experience moderate to heavy rain in the coming few days.

In the state capital, intermittent rain and cloudy weather have persisted since Tuesday evening and moderate rain is expected throughout Wednesday. Due to the sudden change in weather, the temperature has fallen and is likely to fall further.

Moreover, IMD has forecast of continued rains in several parts of the state through October 30, particularly in the northeastern and central regions.
