Faridabad, November 22: Faridabad Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine how Al-Falah University allegedly became a base for an extremist module linked to the recent blast at Delhi’s Red Fort, officials said on Thursday.
The SIT, led by two assistant commissioners of police and supported by an inspector and two sub-inspectors, has been tasked with compiling a detailed report on the university’s operations, funding channels and possible support networks. Investigators are probing how the accused doctors allegedly used the campus as a safe hub and transported explosive material from Faridabad to the capital without raising suspicion.
“A SIT has been formed in the investigation of Al-Falah University linked to the Delhi blast. The SIT has started probing all aspects,” a Faridabad Police spokesperson said.
Police officials said preliminary findings indicate that the explosives used in the Delhi blast originated from Dhauj village in Faridabad. The team is conducting a discreet investigation along this route to identify potential facilitators and gaps in oversight.
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta has directed the SIT to scrutinise how the university’s environment may have enabled the module to operate undetected for years. Investigators are also looking into alleged local support from nearby villages, the movement of suspects and reports that several faculty members have disappeared since the case surfaced.
The SIT was set up shortly after Haryana Director General of Police O.P. Singh visited the campus on Tuesday. Singh raised concerns over what he described as a “collapse of internal security mechanisms” and instructed senior district officials to personally monitor the probe.
The university has also faced repercussions outside the investigation. Organisers of the North Zone Inter-University Cricket Tournament, hosted by Aligarh Muslim University, have removed Al-Falah University from the competition, citing security concerns. A match scheduled for Nov. 22 between Al-Falah University and Manav Rachna University has been cancelled.
