Raipur, Dec 16: An unusual situation unfolded in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on the opening day of the session as a minister came under fire over his own reply to a question raised by a Congress legislator regarding alleged irregularities in forest land rights.
Congress MLA Jankaram Dhruv questioned the government over alleged forged documents linked to forest land pattas in Shobha village panchayat of Mainpur development block in Gariaband district. He alleged that fake signatures and seals of the sarpanch and secretary were used to prepare fraudulent claims under the Forest Rights Act and said a complaint had been submitted to the district collector.
Seeking clarity, Dhruv asked when an FIR would be registered in the matter. In his reply, minister Tankram Verma claimed that an inquiry had already been conducted. However, the Opposition countered the statement, asserting that no formal complaint had been registered, leaving the minister visibly cornered in the House.
The incident added to the heated atmosphere on the first day of the session, during which the Opposition mounted a strong attack on the Vishnu Deo Sai-led government, even as BJP legislators were seen raising questions directed at their own administration.
