Patna, Aug 20: The ruling Janata Dal (United) on Thursday presented a report card of Health Minister Nishant Kumar’s first 100-plus days in office, highlighting what it described as significant improvements in Bihar’s healthcare system.
Addressing a press conference, JDU chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said the health department had witnessed several changes under Nishant Kumar and praised the partnership between Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and the health minister.
“Bihar is changing today, and the Samrat-Nishant pair is proving to be a superhit,” Kumar said.
He said the government’s priority was to ensure that poor and economically weaker sections do not remain deprived of medical treatment due to financial constraints.
“The government’s priority is to provide better healthcare to the poor,” he said, adding that the government was committed to expanding access to treatment.
Kumar also claimed that Bihar ranks number one in the country in terms of drug distribution, while stressing that the government was focusing on improving facilities and services at government hospitals.
He said Nishant Kumar has been regularly inspecting hospitals, reviewing arrangements and directing officials to address shortcomings and improve patient care.
“If work is done with honesty, a long streak of development can be achieved,” Kumar said while praising the health minister’s work ethic.
Highlighting the alleged improvement in Bihar’s medical infrastructure, the JDU spokesperson claimed that patients from neighbouring countries, including Nepal and Bhutan, and even Pakistan, are now reaching the state for treatment.
“Patients from Nepal, Bhutan and even Pakistan are now reaching Bihar for treatment,” he said, attributing the development to improvements in the state’s healthcare system.
Kumar said the expansion of medical facilities and improvements in government hospital systems were beginning to show results and asserted that the government would continue with the reform process.
The JDU also struck a stern note on negligence in the health sector, saying that any attempt to disrupt or undermine the healthcare system would not be tolerated.
“Anyone who attempts to derail Bihar’s health system will not be spared,” Kumar said.
The party described Nishant Kumar’s first 100 days as an important phase in the government’s efforts to transform Bihar’s health sector and said reforms and improvements would continue in the coming days.
