New Delhi, July 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Andy Burnham on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and expressed confidence that the India-UK partnership would deepen further, particularly with the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) coming into force this month.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Modi extended his best wishes to the new British Prime Minister and underscored the enduring strength of bilateral relations between the two democracies.

Highlighting the breadth of cooperation between the two countries, Modi said India and the UK continue to work closely across sectors including trade, investment, technology, defence and people-to-people exchanges.
“India and the UK are bound by shared democratic values and enjoy wide-ranging cooperation across trade, investment, technology, defence and people-to-people relations,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral engagement.
“With CETA entering into force this month, our bilateral partnership is poised to grow even stronger,” Modi said.
Reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening strategic ties, Modi said he looked forward to working closely with Burnham to further deepen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advance the two countries’ shared Vision 2035.

Andy Burnham assumed office after succeeding Keir Starmer following the Labour Party’s internal leadership contest. His appointment marks another leadership transition in British politics, making him the seventh person to serve as the UK’s Prime Minister in the past decade.
