Pakur, July 21: The Pakur district administration, in coordination with leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has selected Old DC More as the proposed site for the installation of a statue of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, veteran Jharkhand movement leader and founder of the JMM.
The decision was taken after a joint inspection of multiple locations across the town by district officials and JMM representatives. The team assessed various sites on parameters including traffic management, public convenience, security and the visibility of the proposed statue before finalising Old DC More.
The inspection was carried out by District Transport Officer Mujahid Ansari, Land Acquisition Officer Amit Kumar, District Sub-Registrar Vikas Trivedi, City Administrator Amarendra Kumar Choudhary and Zonal Officer Arvind Vediya. JMM district president Ejazul Islam, along with senior party leaders Shyam Yadav and Habibur Rahman, also participated in the exercise.
Following the site selection, the administration will prepare a detailed proposal for the installation of the statue and complete the necessary technical and administrative formalities before the project is taken forward.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, JMM district president Ejazul Islam said, “Guruji Shibu Soren gave a new direction to Jharkhand’s identity, tribal and indigenous rights, and the statehood movement.”
He added that the proposed statue would serve as a tribute to the veteran leader’s contribution and inspire future generations. “The installation of his statue will educate the new generation about his struggle and contributions,” Islam said.
City Administrator Amarendra Kumar Choudhary said the administration would now initiate the next phase of the project.
“Further technical procedures and necessary administrative formalities will be completed at the selected site. A detailed proposal is being prepared for the installation of the statue,” he said.
The proposed memorial is intended to honour Shibu Soren’s role in the Jharkhand statehood movement and his contribution to safeguarding the rights of tribal and indigenous communities in the state.
