Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: A severe cold wave continued to grip large parts of Odisha on Tuesday, with minimum temperatures remaining significantly low across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no likelihood of relief from the cold wave conditions for at least the next five days, extending into the New Year.
The IMD said cold wave conditions are expected to prevail across several districts of the state during this period.
G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal district and Udala in Mayurbhanj district recorded the lowest minimum temperatures, making them the coldest places in Odisha during the current spell.
Hill stations such as Daringbadi and Phulbani also experienced biting cold, with minimum temperatures hovering around 6 degrees Celsius.
In addition to the cold wave, the weather department has warned of dense fog during morning hours over the next five days in parts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts.
The IMD advised people to remain cautious, particularly during early morning hours, as reduced visibility may affect road and rail traffic.
The cold wave has disrupted daily life in several areas, with residents resorting to warm clothing and limited outdoor activities, especially during night and early morning hours.
Authories have urged people, particularly the elderly and children, to take necessary precautions to avoid cold-related ailments.
