Washington, October 8: U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday congratulated Japan’s ruling-party leader Sanae Takaichi, who is poised to become the country’s first female prime minister, calling her “a highly respected person of great wisdom and strength.”
“Japan has just elected its first female Prime Minister, a highly respected person of great wisdom and strength. This is tremendous news for the incredible people of Japan. Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, without mentioning Takaichi by name.
Takaichi, a hardline conservative and longtime ally of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, responded on X, saying she was “very pleased” with Trump’s message.
“Truly hoping to work together with President Trump to make our Alliance even stronger and more prosperous, and to advance a Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” she wrote. Takaichi is expected to formally take office later this week after her ruling Liberal Democratic Party secured a leadership victory, paving the way for her to succeed Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
