New Delhi, Aug. 2 : Independent MP from Bihar’s Purnia, Pappu Yadav, was allegedly attacked during a press conference at his Delhi residence on Sunday evening after a man hurled a slipper at him, triggering a scuffle in which the accused was overpowered by the MP’s supporters before being handed over to the police.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred while Yadav was addressing the media. Soon after the slipper was thrown, his supporters caught hold of the alleged attacker and assaulted him before police intervened.

Yadav claimed the accused was carrying a knife and alleged that the attack was an attempt on his life. He further alleged that certain individuals had publicly incited violence against him by announcing a cash reward for attacking him.

“Certain self-styled godmen have been saying ‘Kill him, burn him, and we will give ₹51 lakh.’ We caught one such individual and handed him over to the police. The police have taken the accused into custody and an FIR has been registered,” Yadav told reporters after the incident.

The alleged attack comes two days after Yadav participated in a symbolic protest in the Parliament complex, where Opposition MPs staged a “mock theft of offerings” skit over the alleged Ram Temple donation controversy.

Following that protest, a Hindu activist from Lucknow had reportedly announced a reward of ₹51 lakh for anyone who brought Yadav’s head, prompting criticism and security concerns.

Addressing the media after Sunday’s incident, Yadav questioned the motive behind the attack and said, “The attack happened right in front of you. What is my crime? The real guilt lies with Brij Bhushan Tiwari and Champat Rai.

“Delhi Police took the accused into custody and initiated legal proceedings. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack and verify the allegations regarding the possession of a knife and prior threats against the MP.
