Ranchi, November 2: A delegation of the Shri Bharatvarsiya Digambar Jain Mahasabha on Monday met Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Lok Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking measures to protect the religious sanctity, security and ecological heritage of Shri Sammed Shikharji in Giridih district.
In the memorandum, the delegation described Sammed Shikharji as one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Jainism, stating that 20 of the religion’s 24 Tirthankaras, along with several other Siddha souls, are believed to have attained salvation on the sacred mountain. The site holds immense religious and spiritual significance for Jain devotees across the country and abroad.
The Mahasabha urged the Governor to ensure effective measures to preserve the religious dignity and natural environment of the pilgrimage site. It also sought adequate security arrangements across the mountain range and pilgrimage area, along with regular inspections and monitoring at entry points.
The delegation further called for improved facilities for pilgrims, including sanitation, safe drinking water, medical assistance and transportation. It stressed the need for special security arrangements to ensure the safety of devotees visiting the site.
Requesting the Governor to issue necessary directions to the state government and the concerned authorities, the delegation said coordinated action was essential to enable pilgrims from India and abroad to visit the sacred site and offer prayers without fear or inconvenience.
