Patna, Aug 1: Paddy transplantation in Patna district has remained below the expected pace during the ongoing Kharif season, with irregular and inadequate rainfall affecting agricultural activities across several blocks.Official data from the district agriculture department shows that paddy transplantation has been completed on 74,646.80 acres against a target of 1,36,696.19 acres, accounting for 54.61 per cent of the planned cultivation area.
The progress has varied considerably among the district’s blocks. Maner recorded the lowest transplantation coverage at around 32 per cent, followed by Patna Sadar at 33 per cent. Athamlagola reported nearly 41 per cent progress, while Bihta and Bakhtiyarpur achieved about 42 per cent each. Dulhin Bazar recorded approximately 43 per cent coverage.Mokama emerged as the best-performing block, with paddy transplantation reaching 89.87 per cent of its target. Pandarak reported around 70 per cent progress, while Bikram achieved 69.50 per cent.
Ghoswari and Belchhi recorded nearly 69 per cent each, and Naubatpur reached about 68 per cent.Despite leading the district, Mokama has also not yet completed its entire seasonal transplantation target.Several major paddy-growing blocks continue to face significant gaps. In Paliganj, transplantation has been completed on 7,878.37 acres against a target of 17,507.49 acres, representing about 45 per cent progress.Naubatpur has covered 8,656.40 acres out of its target of 12,730 acres.
In Bikram, farmers have completed transplantation on 8,337.22 acres against a planned area of 11,996 acres.District Agriculture Officer Avinash Shankar attributed the slow pace mainly to inconsistent monsoon rainfall.
He said intermittent showers had affected field preparation and delayed transplantation activities, as farmers were facing inadequate soil moisture in several areas.The agriculture department is closely monitoring rainfall and crop conditions across the district.
Farmers have been advised to make careful use of available irrigation and water resources until monsoon conditions improve.With the transplantation period progressing, continued delays could affect crop establishment and may have implications for paddy production in Patna district during the current Kharif season.
