Ranchi, Oct 29: Jharkhand Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar inaugurated the JIASOWA Diwali Mela 2026 at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi on Thursday, praising the Jharkhand IAS Officers’ Wives Association (JIASOWA) for its public welfare initiatives and commitment to education, art and cultural preservation.

Emphasising the fair’s social purpose, Kumar said its objective was not economic gain but providing financial assistance to those in need. He described the event as a platform for supporting marginalised sections of society, encouraging artistic talent and fulfilling social responsibilities.

The Chief Secretary said the fair brings together craftspeople, artisans and artists from different parts of the country, allowing them to showcase their skills while promoting awareness of diverse regional art, culture and traditions. He also highlighted JIASOWA’s efforts to encourage creative activities and the holistic development of children, including those with special needs.

Kumar urged the organisers to conduct the fair with diligence, transparency and dedication, while safeguarding the interests of stall operators, artists and visitors. He expressed confidence that collective efforts would ensure the event’s success.

As part of its educational initiatives, JIASOWA has provided ₹15 lakh each to libraries in Chaibasa, Deoghar and Dumka, amounting to ₹45 lakh. The financial assistance is intended to improve study facilities and help students prepare for competitive examinations, develop their knowledge and skills, and pursue better opportunities.

The association has also provided ₹96,000 to Shreyashi Banerjee to support music education for children who are deaf, hard of hearing or visually impaired. Another ₹96,000 was awarded to Swastika Banerjee to encourage children’s creativity through arts and crafts.

Meanwhile, the Information and Public Relations Department has set up a stall at the fair to inform visitors about government welfare schemes. Brochures and publications are being distributed free of charge, while short films and documentaries highlighting government initiatives are being screened on LED televisions. Despite the rain, the fair continued to draw enthusiastic participation. Cultural
