Meerut, April 08: A woman accused of murdering her husband along with her lover has been found to be pregnant during a routine health check-up at a district jail in Meerut, prison and medical officials said on Monday.
Muskan Rastogi was arrested in connection with the killing of her husband, former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput, whose mutilated body was discovered in a blue drum filled with cement at their home in Indiranagar on March 4.
Rastogi and her alleged accomplice, Sahil, are accused of drugging Rajput before stabbing him to death. Authorities say they then dismembered his body, severing his head and hands, and attempted to conceal the remains.
Viresh Raj Sharma, Senior Superintendent of the Meerut District Jail, said that as per verbal infomation preliminary tests indicate Muskan is pregnant. However, they are yet to receive the official medical report.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kataria confirmed the initial test result and said an ultrasound examination would follow to determine the condition and duration of the pregnancy.
Investigators allege Rastogi had been planning the murder since November 2023. Both suspects are currently in judicial custody.
Rastogi has been assigned sewing duties in prison, while Sahil is engaged in agricultural work. The two have also been enrolled in a rehabilitation programme run in coordination with a drug de-addiction centre, jail officials said.
