Latehar, April 16: A lightning strike during rainfall killed one person and injured six others in separate incidents in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Tuesday, local officials said.

The first incident occurred in Rajwar village under the Balumath police station area, where one woman and two men were returning home after grazing cattle. Lightning struck as heavy rain began, knocking all three to the ground. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one of the men was declared dead, authorities said.

In a second incident reported from Banhardi village in Chandwa block, four people were struck by lightning while outdoors during the rain. All victims were taken to the hospital and are currently receiving treatment.

While recent showers have brought relief from intense heat across the state, lightning strikes during the storms have emerged as a growing concern for rural populations.

Jharkhand sees a spike in lightning-related fatalities during pre-monsoon months, prompting authorities to renew warnings against outdoor exposure during thunderstorms.
