Ranchi: The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Usha Martin University (UMU) organized a tree plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment Day under the national campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. As part of the initiative, 70 saplings of Mahogany and Kadam were planted across the university campus.
The programme was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Madhulika Kaushik, Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Sanjay Mishra and Brig. Sumarvir Singh, Registrar Shiv Pratap Verma, Campus Director Anil Kumar Mishra, Deputy Registrar Leena Srivastava, NSS Programme Coordinator Jagesh Kumar Ranjan, NSS Programme Officers Shubhrasekhar Chakraborty and Shasanka Dev Bhuyan, along with faculty, staff, and personnel from the 26 Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Addressing the gathering, Kaushik emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and urged everyone to plant and nurture trees, reduce plastic use and conserve natural resources.
Known for its green campus, UMU is home to several valuable tree species, including rudraksha, chandan (sandalwood), mahogany and kadam. The plantation drive reflected the university’s continued commitment to promoting a healthy and sustainable environment.
