Ranchi, Mar 24: The Jharkhand government will soon recruit more than 1,200 doctors to strengthen healthcare services across the state, Health Minister Irfan Ansari announced on Tuesday.

The recruitment will be carried out through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to address the shortage of medical professionals in government hospitals.

“We will soon recruit over 1,200 doctors through JPSC to improve healthcare facilities,” Ansari said while distributing appointment letters to 76 newly recruited contractual doctors at a programme in Ranchi.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajoy Kumar Singh said a requisition for 1,243 posts has already been sent to JPSC. The proposed recruitment includes 297 medical officers, 189 assistant professors, 97 super-specialist assistant professors, and 660 specialist doctors.

As part of broader healthcare reforms, the minister also announced measures to tackle blood shortages in the state. An external agency will be engaged to manage blood supply, and a toll-free number will be introduced to enable patients to access blood on call.

“An external agency will arrange and supply blood… a toll-free number will be issued,” Ansari said.

In a push to upgrade medical infrastructure, the government plans to install CT scan and MRI facilities in all medical colleges, district hospitals, and sadar hospitals, aiming to reduce the patient burden on major centres such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad.

“CT scan and MRI facilities will be installed in all major hospitals,” he added.

The state will also undertake screening programmes for sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia to assess and manage the number of affected patients.

Highlighting efforts to combat communicable diseases, Ansari said Jharkhand is working towards eliminating tuberculosis by 2029. Around 76,000 TB patients had been identified in the state till December 2025 and are currently undergoing treatment.

“Jharkhand is working towards eliminating tuberculosis by 2029,” the minister said.

Officials said the initiatives are part of a comprehensive plan to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to medical services across the state.
