Ranchi, May 30: A huge cache of explosives was recovered from the Maoists after an encounter between security forces and ultras at Vangram Tirilposi under Jeraikela police station in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Friday which left a security personnel injured.
According to police sources the encounter took place in the forest and hilly area around Vangram Tirilposi in Jeraikela which borders Sundergarh district of Odisha.
During this, about 100 rounds of firing took place from both sides. During the encounter, seeing the security forces getting the upper hand, the Maoists took advantage of the forest and hilly terrain and fled.
The Maoists exploded the IED planted earlier with the aim of targeting the security forces in which Havildar Sunil Kumar TS of Cobra 209 Battalion got injured.
The condition of the injured personnel is stable. Superintendent of Police of West Singhbhum district Rakesh Ranjan has confirmed this. He said that the police force took immediate action and after primary treatment, the injured jawan has been sent to the hospital for higher treatment.
At the same time, during the search operation conducted after the encounter, the security forces have recovered a large amount of explosives and other daily use items.
It is being said that the explosive recovered is the explosive looted on May 27 before reaching Banko mine under Keblang police station of Sundargarh district of Odisha.
Incidentally, a vehicle loaded with nearly 4 tons of explosives coming from Baragaon of Sundargarh was looted by Maoists four days ago. After this incident, Jharkhand Police had issued a high alert on the Jeraikela border and started a big search operation.
Security forces had started a simultaneous operation in Digha, Tholkobad, Chotanagra, Baraiburu areas of Saranda forest.
