Ranchi, October 30: Four people were killed while 23 others were seriously injured in a tragic road accident at the Ranchi-Jamshedpur National Highway 33 near Gosaindih under the Bundu police station area on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, the passengers were traveling from Biridih village in Arki to attend the Aadivasi Janakrosh rally at Tau Maidan in Bundu. SDM Kristo Kumar Besra confirmed that four people died on the spot, while 23 were injured. Of the injured, 15 have been referred to RIMS in Ranchi for better treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the accident happened when the vehicle tried to overtake a bus coming from Jamshedpur. The front tire of the vehicle suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle hit the bus lightly and then overturned into a roadside ditch. The sudden crash led to panic and chaos at the site.
Soon after the incident, Bundu SDPO Om Prakash, SDM Besra, Police Station Incharge Ram Kumar Verma, and Dasham Fall Police Station officers reached the spot. With the help of local residents, the injured were rescued and taken to the Bundu Sub-Divisional Hospital by ambulances.
Officials said the vehicle was overloaded and the SDM assured that strict action would be taken against such vehicles in the future. Following the accident, the scheduled rally at Bundu Tau Maidan has been postponed.
Meanwhile, the local administration is working to identify the victims and monitor the condition of the injured.
