Ghatsila, October 22: The Congress party has kicked-off its full-fledged campaign for the upcoming Ghatsila Assembly by-election, with senior leader and former MLA Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu taking charge of the campaign.
According to party sources, the Congress central leadership has entrusted Balmuchu, who represented Ghatsila three times in the past, with the responsibility of leading the election campaign.
Congress State President Keshav Mahato Kamlesh has reportedly called Balmuchu to Delhi and directed him to oversee the election efforts. A strategy meeting has also been held, during which District Congress President Parvinder Singh has been asked to mobilize the entire team to ensure the victory of Somesh Soren, the Grand Alliance candidate and son of former minister Ramdas Soren.

Balmuchu, a veteran leader, was elected MLA from Ghatsila in 1995, 2000, and 2005 and supported late Ramdas Soren in the last Assembly election in 2024.
Earlier on October 15, the JMM had announced Somesh Soren as its nominee for the upcoming Ghatsila Assembly by-election. Chief Minister Hemant Soren had made the announcement during the party’s Central Committee meeting held in Ranchi.
Earlier on the same day, the BJP had declared Babulal, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren, as its candidate for the Ghatsila seat.
Significantly, Ghatsila by-poll will be held on November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14. The seat fell vacant following the death of Education Minister Ramdas Soren.
