Ranchi, May 14: The postal department has taken a strong action following directive from Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia suspending three postal staff and another employee being taken off from duty after news of consuming liquor inside Tatanagar Post Office went viral.
A few days ago, an incident of drinking alcohol openly during duty hours at Tatanagar Post Office in Jamshedpur came to light with the circulation of a viral video.
On the instructions of Senior Postal Superintendent Parmanand Kumar, ASP (West) Parikshit Seth has investigated the matter. After the allegations were found to be true in the investigation, postal assistant Nitesh Kumar, overseer Amit Kumar Thakur and night guard Jitendra Kumar have been suspended with immediate effect. Also, GDS BPM Suraj Kumar Sahu has also been removed from duty.
According to the information, the incident took place on the night of May 3, 2025. When postal employees were allegedly found consuming alcohol openly within the premises in the Tatanagar Post Office premises. Some photos went viral in this regard, after which orders for departmental inquiry were issued.
As soon as it came to the notice of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, he sent a communique citing that the postal department considered this type of indiscipline as a serious service violation. It also made it clear that this type of conduct will not be tolerated in the office premises under any circumstances. The department has also reiterated the point of adopting a zero tolerance policy to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
