New Delhi, Aug 22: A 31-year-old MSc Physics student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi died after allegedly falling from the sixth floor of a campus building on Saturday morning, police said.According to preliminary information, the student entered the institute campus through the main gate at around 8 am and later went to the Lecture Hall Complex.
He took a lift to the sixth floor before allegedly falling from the front side of the building, police said.A PCR call regarding the incident was received at Kishangarh police station at around 8:33 am, following which a police team reached the campus.
The student was taken to the IIT Delhi campus hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, a police officer said.No suicide note has been recovered so far, police said. A mobile phone found in the student’s possession has been taken for examination as investigators seek to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Police are also obtaining relevant records from IIT Delhi, including counselling-related information, and examining the student’s movements before his death.Officials said the investigation is focused on verifying available facts and determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The exact reason behind the death has not yet been established.The incident is reportedly the second suspected suicide at IIT Delhi this year. A 19-year-old BTech student was found dead in his campus accommodation in March.Police said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
