New Delhi, July 25 : Delhi Police on Saturday issued a traffic advisory urging commuters to avoid travelling towards the New Delhi district due to unusually heavy crowds and severe traffic congestion, advising the public to use alternative routes to minimise delays.
In a post on social media, Delhi Police said commuters should avoid the New Delhi area unless absolutely necessary and plan their journeys through alternate routes to ensure a hassle-free commute.
In its official advisory, the police said an unusually high influx of people had resulted in significant traffic congestion across the district. Authorities appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with traffic management measures.
The advisory comes amid heightened activity in the national capital following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the wake of the NEET-UG 2026 examination controversy.
In his resignation letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradhan said he was stepping down in the larger interest of students and to ensure that the country’s youth did not remain “trapped in a web of confusion.” He reiterated his long association with the education sector and reaffirmed his commitment to education reforms.
Referring to the NEET-UG 2026 controversy, Pradhan said the Centre acted promptly after irregularities were detected in the examination conducted on May 3. He noted that the government handed over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), cancelled the examination and announced a re-examination. He also said that from next year, the examination would be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode to strengthen transparency and security.
The resignation followed weeks of protests over the alleged examination irregularities. Demonstrations intensified after a month-long agitation at Jantar Mantar and culminated in the “Chalo Sansad” march on July 20, during which protesters were stopped by police.
Delhi Police has advised motorists to follow traffic updates and use alternate routes until congestion eases. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have deployed additional personnel to regulate traffic movement across the affected areas.
