NEW DELHI, April 10 – The Indian National Congress has appointed Dr. Anil Jaihind as the new chairman of its Other Backward Classes (OBC) wing, replacing Capt. Ajay Yadav, a move that comes a day after the party’s All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Ahmedabad passed a resolution for organisational reforms.
Dr. Jaihind, a prominent social activist and recent addition to the Congress party, will take charge of the OBC wing, marking a significant leadership change. Capt. Yadav, a seasoned party veteran from Haryana, had led the wing but had faced growing criticism after Congress’ poor performance in the Haryana Assembly elections last October. He had publicly criticized the state leadership, including former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
The party’s AICC session in Ahmedabad reaffirmed its commitment to social justice, which was a key focus in the appointment of Jaihind, who has been an advocate for the rights of backward communities.
In a separate development, the Congress also announced the removal of Alok Sharma from his position as AICC Secretary for Punjab. The party did not provide specific reasons for the decision but confirmed that Sharma would continue his involvement with the party as a media panellist. The reshuffling within the Congress party is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen its organizational structure ahead of future elections.
